Thanks for the recipe, I had a hard time finding one that wasn't in tassie pans. I easily got 18 out of this recipe instead of the recommended 15, and I was able to make three different styles: caramel toffee, chocolate chip, and plain. Thank you for putting this online!

Hi Jilly,

We specify rye whiskey because in Canada it generally is also a Canadian whiskey. We like the idea of keeping with the Canadian Maple theme. You can, however, use any whiskey you like. We suggest a light whiskey to not overpower the maple. Ultimately the whiskey is diluted with the maple syrup so the type of whiskey used will not be so important to the end result.

I don't know much about whisky, can I use scotch or barley whisky instead or does it have to be rye? I can't find any rye whisky in UK supermarkets and I don't really want to buy whisky from a specialist store.

Just to add on to that...

I have made this Maple Whiskey before and taken a taste test _directly_ after mixing the maple syrup with the whiskey. It was delicious. Mind you, as CreativePlume mentioned above, the flavour will still change until it completely sets.

Hi Will,

We have also had this problem in the past! This is why we really suggest making big batches at a time. We have tried it before the full 4 weeks and it is still good. Four weeks is the time that it will take the flavour to fully set but we see no problem giving it away a little early. It will still be delicious!
